“It will be enough for me, however, if my words are judged useful by those who want to understand clearly the events which happened in the past and, human nature being what it is … will be repeated in the future.”
– Thucydides
History is sometimes portrayed as a discipline detached from our lives, a subject only for those who seek to understand distant events. We believe the complete opposite, that the events of the past have a profound impact on us, and that an understanding of them which goes beyond the public exam syllabus is vital.
The 1440 Review, named with the foundation and the legacy of our school in mind, is a student-run publication from start to finish. It aims to provide a platform for pupils to learn and inform, to read and write and to research and create. Our mandate is to allow members of our community to discover more about the past they did not know, thereby gaining a deeper understanding about the world, their place in it and their futures.
